MISSION

The mission of the Genesee Valley Chapter is to:

  1. Inculcate and stimulate love of our Country and of our flag;
  2. Defend the honor, integrity, and supremacy of one National Government and the Constitution of the United States of America;
  3. Advocate military forces adequate to the defense of our country;
  4. Further the legislative and other objectives of the Military Officers of America;
  5. Encourage and facilitate camaraderie among retired, active and former officers of the uniformed services;
  6. Provide useful services for, and protect the interests of members and their dependents and survivors, and present their rights and interests when service matters are under consideration.

ABOUT OUR CHAPTER

The Genesee Valley Chapter (GVC) was chartered on May 26, 1961 and is proud of its long standing history of service and support to its members and the greater military community. GVC is one of more than 400 independent, self-governing, nonpartison,  and self-supporting organizations that affiliate with MOAA National to collaborate to accomplish the MOAA mission. GVC covers a large area in the Genesee Valley in upstate New York between Buffalo and Syracuse and extending south into the Finger Lakes Region. GVC is one of nine chapters in the New York State MOAA Council of Chapters. GVC publishes a newsletter (print and e-mail) six times a year and currently has about 130 members.

CHAPTER ACTIVITIES

  • Six board meetings between August and May
  • Six Newsletters annually
  • Six dinner meetings for the general membership
  • Service to chapter members and their families
  • Help members secure veteran and retiree benefits
  • Apprise local elected representatives on the MOAA legislative agenda
  • Participate in Memorial and Veterans Day parades
  • Assist in ROTC recruiting activities
  • Present MOAA award medals to selected local ROTC cadets
  • Support local Guard and Reserve units deployed overseas

LEGISLATIVE ISSUES

Genesee Valley Chapter of MOAA supports the MOAA national legislative agenda and strives to keep local elected representatives at the state and congressional level appraised on MOAA’s key issues. The Chapter is also active in supporting the New York State Council on various state veterans’ issues. MOAA National & the Genesee Valley Chapter are nonpartisan.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Genesee Valley Chapter meetings are dinner meetings held on Sundays, in the early afternoon. Locations vary and are announced in the chapter newsletter and at chapter meetings, or see our “Calendar” page. There is normally a guest speaker. The December meeting is traditionally a holiday dinner dance. The June meeting is our annual business meeting, to include election and installation of officers. Guests are welcome to all meetings. The members of GVC strive to foster camaraderie and provide a social atmosphere as a means to achieve its service objectives.
